Ortega Trail (Cherry Creek)
The Ortega Trail, also known as Cherry Creek! At one point the US Forest Service considered this trail unrideable! We made a new word there. It's about 8 miles of treacherous rock gardens and switchbacks. A Pirelli MT43 works wonders here. You will need an Adventure Pass to ride this trail They are available at the Wheeler Gorge Visitor Center as a day pass or you can buy an annual pass. I recommend getting the Annual with a second vehicle pass for $5 more. The entrance to this trail is at mile marker 20 on the left hand side on Highway 33. You can park right at the entrance or any of the turn outs before or after the entrance. I like the first turn out after the entrance the best. My favorite way to ride the trail is with a plated bike. You ride the trail from the bottom to the top and pop out on Highway 33 and take the road back to the truck. Follow these guys on facebook (https://www.facebook.com/ojaivalley.dirtriders). They help to maintain the trail and usually have up to date photos of the trail.
